Jaxson Dart: The Giants' New Hope Amidst Struggle

Well, another year and another poor start for the New York Giants. Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen promised change. They promised progress. They said they wanted Dart to sit and learn for a year. The New York Giants have lost three straight games to kick off the 2025 season. New Year, same results for the current regime. General Manager Joe Schoen and Head Coach Brian Daboll must be next on the chopping block. They have an 18-35-1 record since taking over in 2022. This does include one playoff appearance in his first year. They secured a wildcard win. However, they were dumped from the playoffs in the divisional round. After a Sunday night loss to the Chiefs, the wait is over for first-round draft pick Jaxson Dart. Ian Rapport announced today that he is the QB 1 heading into week four.

Jaxson Dart

The Giants traded back into the First round of this past draft. They selected Jaxson Dart after drafting Abdul Carter with the number three overall pick this year. The Giants had signed both Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston in free agency this year. They planned to sit Dart this season. He was supposed to learn from the veteran. However, after starting 0-3, the time is apparently now for Dart. He had an exciting season last year for Ole Miss and looked sharp this preseason running the offense. He will get the start Sunday at home against the Los Angeles Chargers.

The Charges come into New York undefeated. They rank 9th in passing yards allowed in the NFL. They also rank 8th in total yards allowed per game. With three interceptions so far this year and seven sacks through three games. This Chargers defense will be a very difficult test for Dart in his first start as a professional.

Russell Wilson

Russell Wilson looked poor against the Commanders in week one with 168 passing yards and a 46 percent completion rating. In week two, he showed life against the Cowboys. He threw for 450 yards and three touchdowns. This performance provided some hope that hey, maybe, just maybe the Giants can make this season different. That hope disappeared Sunday night against the Chiefs. He threw for just 160 yards and had a 56.3 percent completion rating. Besides scoring 37 points against the Cowboys in week two, Wilson and the rest of the offense have struggled. They have only managed to score 15 points in two other games this year. Wilson will grab a clipboard. The 25th overall pick from this year’s draft will lead the offense against the Chargers on Sunday afternoon.

Final Thoughts

I agree that the Giants’ offense needs a change. Yes, the majority of the fans want to see Dart take the lead. Unfortunately, if the play calling and creativity do not change, drastic improvements in this offense are unrealistic. This offense is one of the worst in the NFL. Mike Kafka and Brian Daboll need to have a darn good game plan. Unlike last week, they need to be prepared to make in-game adjustments. These changes will improve the chances of success. They have to find creative ways to get Nabers, Robinson, and Theo Johnson the ball. They need to get Dart off to a fast start. They should get the running game going with Skattebo. This will open up the middle of the field with play-action passes. They can change the QB. However, if they do not change how they have been scheming up game plans, the results won’t be much different. Additionally, calling games differently is crucial.
