Where Are They Now: Top 10 Quarterback Recruits From 2021

The College Football season is entering week five and the quarterbacks this season have been slinging it with Jaxson Dart from Ole Miss having thrown for the most yards to this point with 1,554 and Cam Ward from Miami right behind him with 1,439 yards; Ward leads the country with the most passing touchdowns with 14. So with how good the quarterback play has been it’s created the conversation of was the 2021 recruit class one of the best, it just may have been but even more so with the transfer portal where are those quarterbacks now? Let’s take and look and see how they’ve done throughout their collegiate career.

The school listed is the school they committed to.

1.) Quinn Ewers – Ohio State Buckeyes

    Ewers in his first season at Ohio State appeared in just one game. Following that 2021 season, he transferred to Texas where in ten games he threw for 2,177 yards with 15 touchdowns and six interceptions. Last season, in 12 games he threw for 3,479 yards with 22 touchdowns and six interceptions leading the Longhorns to a Big 12 title and a College Football Playoff berth. Now in his senior season, he has Texas ranked the #1 team in the country and in three games he’s thrown for 691 yards with eight touchdowns and two interceptions.

    2.) Caleb Williams – Oklahoma Sooners

    Williams in his freshman season at Oklahoma played in 11 games throwing for 1,912 yards with 21 touchdowns and four interceptions. He would then transfer to USC and in his sophomore season in 14 games he threw for 4,537 yards with 42 touchdowns and five interceptions en route to a Heisman Trophy. Last season in 12 games he threw for 3,633 yards with 30 touchdowns and five interceptions. He would enter the 2024 NFL Draft and be drafted first overall by the Chicago Bears and through three games this season he’s thrown for 630 yards with two touchdowns and four interceptions.

    3.) Sam Huard – Washington Huskies

    Huard played in four games his freshman season throwing for 241 yards with a touchdown and four interceptions. In 2022 he only played in one game throwing for 24 yards. He then transferred to an FCS school in Cal Poly where he threw for 2,205 yards with 18 touchdowns and ten interceptions, but he would go 3-8. He is now at Utah and is currently listed as the third quarterback right now on the depth chart.

    4.) Brock Vandagriff – Georgia Bulldogs

    Vandagriff in his first two seasons at Georgia failed to complete a pass. Last season, in eight games he went 8-12 and threw for 165 yards with two touchdowns. He’s now at Kentucky with the Wildcats and through four games this season he’s thrown for 550 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions.

    5.) J.J. McCarthy – Michigan Wolverines

    McCarthy in his first season at Michigan played in 11 games throwing for 516 yards with five touchdowns and two interceptions. In 2022 he played in 14 games leading Michigan to a College Football Playoff berth he threw for 2,719 yards with 22 touchdowns and five interceptions. Last season, he played in 15 games throwing for 2,991 yards with 22 touchdowns and four interceptions as he helped lead Michigan to a National Championship. He was drafted tenth overall by the Minnesota Vikings in this past draft, he is out for the season due to a torn meniscus that he underwent surgery for.

    6.) Kyle McCord – Ohio State Buckeyes

    McCord in his first season at Ohio State threw for 416 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions in five games. In 2022 his second season he threw for 190 yards with a touchdown in seven games. In 2023 with McCord taking the reigns in 12 games he threw for 3,170 yards with 24 touchdowns and six interceptions. He then transferred to Syracuse and through three games he has thrown for 1,074 yards with ten touchdowns and three interceptions.

    7.) Ty Thompson – Oregon Ducks

    Thompson in his first season at Oregon played in three games throwing for 87 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. In 2022 in seven games, he threw for 72 yards with two interceptions. Last season, in another seven games he threw for 297 yards behind Bo Nix and had four touchdowns and an interception. This season he is at Tulane as a backup and in four games he went 3 for 5 for 24 yards with a touchdown on the ground, he has 55 rushing yards on 12 attempts and three touchdowns.

    8.) Jake Garcia – Miami Hurricanes

    Garcia played in one game his freshman year at Miami going 11-14 for 147 yards and two touchdowns. In 2022 his sophomore season in eight games he threw for 803 yards with five touchdowns and four interceptions. He then transferred to Missouri, but he didn’t see any game action with the Tigers. He is now with East Carolina and through four games this season he has thrown for 1,021 yards with five touchdowns and nine interceptions as the Pirates are 2-2

    9.) Drake Maye – North Carolina Tar Heels

    Maye spent his first season only playing in four games throwing for 89 yards with a touchdown. In his second season, he took over the offense playing in 14 games he threw for 4,321 yards with 38 touchdowns and seven interceptions. Last season in 12 games he threw for 3,608 yards with 24 touchdowns and nine interceptions.  In 2022 he was ACC Offensive Player of the Year as well as the Player of the Year. He got drafted third overall by the New England Patriots he saw his first game action on Thursday going four of eight for 22 yards, he was sacked twice and he had two carries for 12 yards.

    10.) Jaxson Dart – USC Trojans

      Dart spent one season at USC and in six games he threw for 1,353 yards with nine touchdowns and five interceptions. He then joined Lane Kiffin at Ole Miss and in his first season with the Rebels in 2022 he played in 13 games throwing for 2,974 yards with 20 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. In 13 games in 2023 he threw for 3,364 yards with 23 touchdowns and five interceptions. This season in four games he’s thrown for 1,554 yards with 12 touchdowns and two interceptions.
