The Los Angeles Rams beat the Philadelphia Eagles 24-20 on Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field by scoring the game's final 14 points. The difference was a Rams defense that left Philadelphia 0-for-12 on third down and kept the Eagles off the scoreboard after halftime.
Los Angeles outgained Philadelphia 415 yards to 172. The scoreboard did not catch up until the fourth quarter.
How It Happened
Jake Elliott opened the scoring with a 29-yard field goal midway through the first quarter. Harrison Mevis answered from 40 yards, and the game was tied at 3 after one.
Philadelphia took over the second quarter. Elliott hit from 56 yards, then Jalen Hurts found Darius Cooper for an 18-yard touchdown and a 13-3 lead.
Puka Nacua cut the gap to 13-10 on a 2-yard run. Hurts and Cooper connected again from 10 yards with 3 seconds left in the half, sending the Eagles to the locker room up 20-10.
Neither team scored in the third quarter. The Rams finally broke through late in the fourth, when Kyren Williams ran in from 1 yard out to pull within 3.
The Eagles could not answer. Williams scored again on a 7-yard run with just over a minute left, giving Los Angeles its first lead of the day.
Key Performers
Rushing: Kyren Williams (LAR) – 2 TD (1 YD, 7 YDS)
Receiving: Darius Cooper (PHI) – 2 TD (18 YDS, 10 YDS)
Rams passing: 32-51, 309 net YDS, 2 INT
Eagles passing: 12-27, 68 net YDS, 4 sacks for 25 YDS lost
Third down: LAR 7-16, PHI 0-12
Williams delivered both fourth-quarter touchdowns, the second of them the winner. Cooper accounted for every Philadelphia touchdown and made the halftime lead possible.
The Rams' pass defense held up as well. Philadelphia averaged about 2 yards per pass attempt and was sacked 4 times, and the Eagles managed only 5 passing first downs all game.
What It Means
Both teams leave at 2-2. The Rams are now 1-1 on the road, and the Eagles are 1-1 at home.
Los Angeles won despite giving the ball away twice on interceptions and committing 8 penalties for 100 yards. Racking up 26 first downs and holding the ball for 32 minutes gave the Rams enough chances to absorb those mistakes.
For Philadelphia, this is a hard loss to swallow. The Eagles did not turn the ball over, yet an offense averaging 3 yards per play could not produce a single point in the second half to protect a 10-point lead.
