The Seattle Seahawks beat the New England Patriots 13-10 Wednesday night at Lumen Field. Seattle never turned the ball over, and New England's interceptions undid a night of control. The Patriots ran 67 plays to Seattle's 48 and still lost.

New England held the ball for more than 34 minutes and piled up 19 first downs to Seattle's 13. The interceptions outweighed all of it. The Seahawks scored 13 unanswered points after falling behind by 10.

How It Happened

The first quarter was scoreless. New England broke through with 9:11 left in the second, when Drake Maye hit Eli Raridon for a 2-yard touchdown. Andy Borregales added the extra point, and the Patriots took a 7-0 lead into halftime.

Borregales stretched it to 10-0 with a 50-yard field goal at 11:49 of the third quarter. Seattle finally answered at 3:13, when Jason Myers made a 30-yard field goal to cut the deficit to 10-3.

The game turned early in the fourth. At 11:28, Drew Lock found Jaxon Smith-Njigba for a 45-yard touchdown, and Myers' extra point tied it at 10. Myers then hit a 26-yard field goal with 5:50 left for the go-ahead points, and New England could not answer.

Seattle won without converting in the red zone, going 0-for-2 inside the 20. The long touchdown made that irrelevant. The Seahawks averaged nearly 6 yards per play, while New England managed about 4.

Key Performers

Jaxon Smith-Njigba: 45-yard TD reception (game-tying score)
Drew Lock: 45-yard TD pass to Jaxon Smith-Njigba
Jason Myers: 2 FG (30, 26 YDS), 1 PAT
Seattle defense: 3 INT, 3 sacks, 5-16 opponent third downs
Drake Maye: 2-yard TD pass to Eli Raridon
Andy Borregales: 50-yard FG, 1 PAT

Smith-Njigba's catch was the play of the night. Seattle's offense had produced 3 points through three quarters before that strike flipped the game.

The Seahawks' defense earned the win as much as anyone. It forced every turnover in the game and held New England to 5 conversions on 16 third downs.

What It Means

Seattle opens 1-0 with a win it nearly gave away. The Seahawks were flagged 10 times for 98 yards, converted just 2 of 11 third downs and came up empty in the red zone. A clean turnover sheet covered all of it.

New England falls to 0-1 after a game it largely controlled. The Patriots won the possession battle, ran 19 more plays and went 2-for-2 on fourth down. They still finished with fewer total yards than Seattle and threw the game away through the air.

The takeaway for New England is simple. A team that averages under 5 yards per pass attempt has no margin for interceptions, and the Patriots threw them repeatedly.
