The Washington Commanders beat the Philadelphia Eagles 27-10 Sunday night at Northwest Stadium, scoring the game's final 27 points after falling behind early. The difference was efficiency: Washington gained nearly 6 yards a play, while Philadelphia managed about 4.

The Eagles ran more plays and held the ball longer, but they did little with it. Sacks, turnovers and a stalled red-zone trip turned a long night of possessions into 10 points.

How It Happened

Philadelphia opened the scoring with a 40-yard Jake Elliott field goal at 6:10 of the first quarter. Less than 2 minutes later, Saquon Barkley ran in from 3 yards out to make it 10-0.

Washington got on the board when Drew Stevens hit a 56-yard field goal with 28 seconds left in the quarter. That kick started a run the Eagles never answered.

In the second quarter, Jayden Daniels found Stefon Diggs for an 8-yard touchdown at 4:56 to tie the game. Stevens added a 39-yarder with 19 seconds left in the half, and Washington took a 13-10 lead into the locker room.

The third quarter produced one score, a 25-yard Stevens field goal at 1:33 that stretched the lead to 16-10. Philadelphia's offense stayed stuck, converting just 5 of 15 third downs on the night.

Stevens connected again from 42 yards at 3:43 of the fourth quarter to make it a two-score game. Rachaad White then punched in a 1-yard touchdown at 1:52, and Austin Ekeler ran in the two-point conversion to close out the 27-10 final.

Key Performers

Passing TD: Jayden Daniels – 8-YD TD pass to Stefon Diggs

Stevens accounted for 12 of Washington's points, and his long kick before the end of the first quarter flipped the momentum.

Washington offense: 339 YDS, 5.9 YDS per play, 135 rushing YDS on 26 ATT, 16-29 passing, 2-3 red zone
Philadelphia offense: 268 YDS, 3.9 YDS per play, 91 rushing YDS on 29 ATT, 23-34 passing, 1-2 red zone

The ground game tells the story. Washington ran for more than 5 yards a carry, while Philadelphia averaged about 3. The Eagles also gave up 5 sacks for 35 yards and committed 2 turnovers, an interception and a lost fumble.

Philadelphia's time of possession edge, 33:31 to 26:29, did not help. The Eagles needed more plays to move the ball and could not finish drives.

What It Means

Washington improves to 2-4-1, and the home-road split is now impossible to ignore. The Commanders are 2-1-1 at Northwest Stadium and 0-3 on the road. At home they look like a team that can bury an early deficit; away from Landover they have yet to win.

Philadelphia falls to 2-6, including 1-3 on the road. An offense that averaged under 4 yards a play and turned the ball over twice will not win many games, and a 2-6 record leaves very little room for more nights like this one.
