The Miami Hurricanes top the committee's first College Football Playoff rankings of the season, the same spot they hold in the AP poll. The striking call is Notre Dame at No. 11, a team the writers rank No. 4.

The Top 5

The committee and the writers agree on the top three: Miami (8-0, AP No. 1), Georgia (7-1, AP No. 2) and Utah (8-0, AP No. 3). Indiana (8-1) is No. 4 against AP No. 6, and Alabama (6-2) rounds out the top five at AP No. 9.

Miami's latest win was a close one, 38-35 at North Carolina. Georgia looked more comfortable, beating No. 17 Florida 27-8 at a neutral site.

The Committee Is Far Lower on Notre Dame Than the Writers

Notre Dame is the widest gap between the committee and the AP poll. The Fighting Irish are coming off a 35-13 win over Navy at a neutral site, yet they sit behind Alabama, Texas and Ole Miss, all 6-2.

The writers have Notre Dame in their top four. The committee has the Irish directly ahead of Ohio State, a team that lost 30-18 at USC last week.

Notre Dame gets the chance to answer right away. The Irish host the committee's top team, Miami, on Saturday.

The Committee Likes Alabama and Texas More Than the Writers Do

Alabama is No. 5 for the committee and No. 9 in the AP poll, the largest upward gap among teams both rank. The Crimson Tide did not play last week.

Texas follows the same pattern at No. 7, against AP No. 10, after a 31-3 home win over Mississippi State. Tennessee, also 6-2 and off a bye, gets a similar lift at No. 13 against AP No. 16.

UCLA moves the other way. The Bruins are 8-0 and shut out Nevada 27-0, but the committee puts them at No. 8, behind both Alabama and Texas, while the writers have them No. 5.

Boise State Ranks Behind 5-3 Teams

Boise State is 7-1 and sits at No. 25, 5 spots below its AP ranking. South Carolina (No. 21), Oregon (No. 23) and Florida (No. 24) are all 5-3 and all ranked ahead of the Broncos.

Oregon is the one team the committee ranks that the writers do not. The Ducks are unranked in the AP poll but made the committee's list after beating No. 20 Northwestern 34-26 at home.

Boise State's latest result was a 46-45 escape at home against Texas State. New Mexico, No. 22 in the AP poll, is left out of the committee's Top 25 entirely.

Games That Will Move Next Week's Rankings

Next weekend has 7 games between two teams in the committee's Top 25, all on Saturday, November 7.

No. 1 Miami Hurricanes at No. 11 Notre Dame Fighting Irish
No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs at No. 10 Ole Miss Rebels
No. 9 BYU Cougars at No. 3 Utah Utes
No. 5 Alabama Crimson Tide at No. 14 LSU Tigers
No. 6 Kentucky Wildcats at No. 13 Tennessee Volunteers
No. 7 Texas Longhorns at No. 18 Missouri Tigers
No. 23 Oregon Ducks at No. 12 Ohio State Buckeyes

Miami at Notre Dame is the headliner: the committee's top team against the team it ranks furthest below the AP poll. Ohio State, a week removed from the loss at USC, hosts an Oregon team the writers do not rank at all.
