The Chicago Bears beat the Seattle Seahawks 34-17 on Monday night at Lumen Field, and the difference was finishing drives. Chicago went 4-for-4 in the red zone. Seattle went 1-for-4 and never found a way to sustain possessions.
D'Andre Swift closed it out with two short touchdown runs in the fourth quarter. That came after the Seahawks had clawed back within one score, a margin a better night in the red zone might have erased.
How It Happened
Chicago struck first in the opening quarter. Caleb Williams found Luther Burden III for a 1-yard touchdown with 5:25 left in the first, and Cairo Santos added the kick.
Seattle answered early in the second with a 27-yard Jason Myers field goal at 12:50. Santos then hit from 44 yards at 6:07 and from 38 yards with 1:08 left in the half.
Sam Darnold hit Jaxon Smith-Njigba for a 43-yard touchdown with 30 seconds left before halftime. The extra point failed, and Chicago carried the lead into the break.
Swift extended it with a 1-yard run with 5:38 left in the third. Seattle responded early in the fourth when Darnold found Cooper Kupp for a 7-yard score at 11:46, then hit Tory Horton for the two-point conversion to make it a one-score game.
Chicago shut the door from there. Swift scored from 5 yards at 8:28 and again from 5 yards at 4:41, and Seattle had no answer.

What It Means
The Bears controlled this game by staying on the field. They converted 7 of 15 third downs and held the ball for more than 35 minutes, and every one of their touchdowns came on a play of 5 yards or less. Chicago outgained Seattle overall, 363 yards to 252, without throwing an interception.
Seattle's offense was more efficient per carry than Chicago's, but it ran only 19 times and picked up just 1 first down on the ground. Without a running game moving the chains, the Seahawks leaned on the pass and completed only half their throws.
Chicago did hand Seattle help, committing 10 penalties for 85 yards, and 6 of Seattle's first downs came by penalty. The Seahawks did not turn those chances into enough points, and that is the story of the night.
The win moves Chicago to 6-2, including 3-1 on the road. Seattle falls to 4-4, including 3-2 at home.
